Jongbok received his BS (2010) in Chemistry and MS (2012) in Bionanotechnology (majoring in Organic synthesis) from Hanyang University in Korea, where he studied the synthesis of 1,3,5-trisubstituted-1,2,4-triazoles by microwave-assisted reaction and the synthesis of carbocyclic pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine nucleoside analogs, under the supervision of Professor Hakjune Rhee. Then, he joined the group of Dr Lei Fang at Texas A&M University in 2013. His research interests during PhD focused on the design and synthesis of fully conjugated ladder-type functional organic materials and ladder polymers via ring-closing olefin metathesis (RCM). During his PhD, he has received several awards, including Kaneka, SPE scholarship, and Dow Chemical Company Charlene Black Miller '79 Endowed Memorial Fellowship in Chemistry. He joined the Hawker group in December 2018 as a postdoctoral researcher.
Jongbok's research focuses on developing novel photo-flow polymerization techniques.
