Biography

Hong-Gyu graduated from Inha University in the Republic of Korea with a B.E. in Chemical Engineering in 2016 and an M.E. in 2018. At Inha, he conducted research on the removal of heavy metals from aqueous media using porous organic polymers under the supervision of Professor Sang Eun Shim. He then joined the Ph.D. program in Polymer Science & Engineering at the University of Massachusetts–Amherst, working under the guidance of Professors Todd Emrick and Thomas P. Russell. His doctoral research focused on the synthesis of bottlebrush polymers and their behavior at fluid interfaces. Hong-Gyu completed his Ph.D. in August 2024 and joined the Hawker research group as a postdoctoral scholar in September 2024.
