Will was born in Oklahoma and remained there for his undergraduate education at the University of Oklahoma where he performed natural products isolation research with Professor Robert Cichewicz. He then moved to San Diego, California to do his Ph.D in organic chemistry with Professor Phil Baran at The Scripps Research Institute. During graduate school, Will developed new approaches to stereocontrolled cyclobutane synthesis using C–H functionalization methods which led to the synthesis and reassignment of a variety of natural products. He is currently an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow in the Hawker Lab.
Will is currently developing new strategies for sequence control in polymer chemistry and applications to antibacterial polymers and coatings.
