Mathijs obtained his B.Sc. from the Radboud University in 2013. During his undergraduate studies he studied the relationship between molecular characteristics and mechanical properties of polyisocyanide hydrogels in the group of Prof. Alan E. Rowan. After his undergraduate studies, he continued to pursue his Master’s degree at the Radboud University in the groups of Prof. Alan E. Rowan and Prof. Roeland J.M. Nolte, in which he investigated the supramolecular complexation of a porphyrin containing enzyme mimic. Since March 2015, Mathijs is working as a visiting student in the Hawker lab.
Mathijs is investigating the mechanical properties of interpenetrating polymer networks of triblock copolymers, developed in the Hawker lab, and polyisocyanopeptides, developed in the Rowan lab.
