Ilka was born in Germany and studied chemistry at Philipps University of Marburg (Germany) and the University of Concepción (Chile). She obtained her degree (Diploma) working on polymer stabilized metal nanoparticle dispersions in water in the group of Prof. Andreas Greiner (Philipps University). In her PhD research in the Greiner group at Philipps University and the University of Bayreuth (Germany) she developed new poly(p-xylyene) based polymers for chemical vapor deposition coatings and studied their processability, e.g. via electrospinning. Ilka joined the Hawker group as Postdoc in April 2014.
