Brenden grew up in North Canton Ohio. He received his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. As a graduate student in the Materials department at UCSB in Prof. Craig Hawker's group, Brenden's research has focused on hierarchical structure in conjugated polymers—designing novel monomers and polymers to study the effect of monomer architecture on polymer morphology and resulting material performance.
Brenden has a diverse science background ranging from undergraduate research experiences in biology, immunology, and nanotechnology to his current graduate research as a material scientist and polymer chemist. Overall, Brenden is interested in leveraging his multidisciplinary background to work as part of diverse teams in solving the complex interdisciplinary challenges that face us all today.
