Bernd obtained his diploma degree at the Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz in Germany under the supervision of Prof. Rudolf Zentel in 2012. During his undergraduate studies he visited the Seoul National University in Korea and worked in Prof. Byeong-Hyeok Sohn’s group focusing on the interaction between gold nanorods and dyes.
During his PhD, which was conducted under Prof. Rudolf Zentel, Bernd developed several hybridization approaches using polymeric materials to increase the conductivity in alternative electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries. During research stays at the Seoul National University (Korea) and at the Helmholtz Institute Ulm (Germany) Bernd gained experience with the characterization of battery materials.
Since September 2015, Bernd is working as a PostDoc in the Hawker lab.
Bernd is currently working on the development of new sulfur based materials for the application in Li-S batteries.
